Welcome to my ever growing collection of side projects, art works, and hobbies. Life’s short, make stuff that makes you smile.
A few years ago, Lane Becker and I attended a geek camp. I had made pins that said “high-five-able” for all the attendees. It was a hit at the event, and we’d been talking about bringing the idea to the rest of world ever since. So we launched a kickstarter inviting folks to become founding members of The International High Five Society by picking up a t-shirt.
“Wear your International High Five Society t-shirt out into the world, and when you see someone dressed similarly, you know you've found a fellow member and kindred spirit. Any time of day, anywhere in the world: Let the high-fiving commence!”
Awesome graphic design by the talented Courtney Scott.
My scarf adorned Andy Samberg’s neck on the Tonight Show. How cool is that?
Taking a step back, my friends Steve & Lee got married on cruise ship and another friend, Antoun, officiated. This wasn’t your typical humdrum wedding, and the officiation wouldn’t be either. Antoun planned to quote the Lonely Island’s “I’m On a Boat” and we needed party favors to match. After other folks on the cruise ship asked where to buy the scarves I started selling the extras when we got home.
Fast forward 3 years and I’d kept reprinting and selling the scarves. I had just ran out, and no longer had my scarf supplier when the Tonight Show calls asking for a favor. A month later I got another call to tune-in to the show that evening. And this is likely the closest I’ll ever get to Andy Samberg.
The beautiful hand screened printing was completed by the wonderful folks at ZOO-INK Screen Print.
“Whoa, what is this place?” was exactly what I’d hoped to hear when I set out to make the window installation for Monument.
Monument is a live/event warehouse community space in the heart of San Francisco, CA, and a project I’ve been involved with from the very beginning. Facing the trafficked 9th Street corridor with a full set of windows the challenge was to create privacy, while not blocking the natural light, and not creating a wall on the street. In addition, I wanted a way to pique interest about the space, and give back to the street view with some art. The space houses almost 40 people, and the patterns I created reflected the complex interwoven nature of that many people living together and creating something greater than any one individual.
Each piece is about 4 feet wide and 6 feet tall, and there are 8 in total. Hand made with tape over a month-long period, these were definitely a labor of love.
Shevek did the beautiful lighting.
Archery is a lonely sport, and the gains are slow. I wish I could share my journey, track my improvements and connect with other archers more easily. So I designed my dream archery scoring app.
I tried archery in 2016 and immediately fell in love. I wanted badges to celebrate the small victories and the little steps along the way to mastery, so I made them.
My ideas and sketches were turned into beautiful illustrations by the talented Liam Ashurst.
The pins are for sale on Etsy at Archus Archer and continue to make their way into the hands of other archers, out there, striving to grow and learn for the fun of it.
Did you know Tito Jackson has a collection of vintage VW Buses? After spending two weeks surfing the southern coast of California I was inspired to buy a vintage 1979 VW Westfalia Bus of my own. She was dubbed Cream Puff. I started EpicVW to offer fully outfitted, all-inclusive vintage bus excursions to beautiful destinations across northern California.
After dozens of adventures, the fleet grew to include Chino a 1978 VW Westfalia. The service included help with travel planning and a fun training session to get new drivers familiar with driving a vintage stick shift vehicle. If you ever spot a pearl white VW Bus with chrome accents and a velvet interior, be sure to say hi, it might just be Tito.
Beautiful bus photos by the talented Loren Baxter.
